Sketches and Studies

Illustration

This year I took with me again my sketchpad, pencil and watercolours in order to catch some visual impressions and moods. Here are only some examples. Most of the sketches were done on site and took between some minutes and bit more than an hour to do.

Motives were almost exclusively landscapes. Inspiration for these are based in my childhood and with Romantic painters such as Caspar David Friedrich and J.C. Dahl as well as Realists like Albrecht Dürer and Edward Hopper.

The process is almost always contemplative, even if not allresults are presentable. But with all the digital artwork these days it feels good to be in touch with the roots. Now that it is nearly a quarter of a century ago that I fell from my watercolour pad right into the pixels.
