Seagull

Seagull

Design Study - Woodcraft

This tiny wooden sculpture was made during the vacations at the French Atlantic Coast. In contrast to the sturdy ox, here I intended to craft a possibly very light from from the pine wood.

A seagull with its protruding wings seemed to be suitable. It has been sculpted in one piece – from pure imagination without drafts or templates. Only the beak has been deployed seperately.

Photographing the sculpture in different lighting and from various angles was as thrilling as to modell it. Cameras and objectives with different focal width were used. While shooting, the seagull was hanging from a thin thread which has been retouched afterwards.
